Genesis 1

Genesis 1
- The first book of the Bible was written by Moses about 1440 B.C.
- First thing you need to know about Genesis is that the book is the “seed plot” of the Bible. You find the beginning, the source, the birth of everything.
- Here’s an example someone used: Genesis is just like the bud of a beautiful rose and it opens into the rest of the Bible.
- There are FOUR major events in Genesis: Chapters 1-2 is the Creation, Chapters 3-5 is the FALL, Chapters 6-9 is the FLOOD, and Chapters 10-11 is the NATIONS. In addition to the events, there are FOUR important people: Abraham in Chapters 12-25, Isaac in Chapters 26-27, Jacob in Chapters 28-36, and Joseph in Chapters 37-50.
- One of the most profound statements ever made in Genesis is: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1.
- Onto the actual chapter: the earth wasn’t formed and it was just darkness. The Spirit of God was just hovering around.
- God said “let there be light” and there was light. He divided the light from the dark and that was the first day.
- God repeated the “let there be…” six more times and created more elements to the earth.
- God divided the waters from the waters and called the firmament Heaven. That was the second day.
- The third day God gathered the waters under the heavens to be gathered in one place and let dry land to appear. That was called Earth and the water was called seas. On top of that, God had earth bring forth grass, plants, and fruit trees that produced seed itself.
- The fourth day the sun, moon, and stars were created. That included days, years, and seasons.
- Eventually, God created creatures that live in the ocean and creatures that fly. He told them to be fruitful and multiply, to fill the waters and the sky with more of them. That was the fifth day.
- God created the sixth day with more creatures that lived on land and then created man in “Our image” and “according to Our likeness”. He then commanded that man have dominion over the creatures.
- Now here’s where the actual studying begins. God created man in His image, in the image of God, as male and female. This is the very first verse towards the LGBTQ community and Pride month.
- The capitalization of “Our” is referring to the holy trinity; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. So in other words, God made man in the image of God.
